Somali, US forces storm al-Shabab camp in Jamame

MOGADISHU — Somali especial forces, along with US commandos stormed a camp for al-Shabab extremist fighters in an overnight raid, killing dozens of militants.

The joint military offensive took place in Jamame district of lower Jubba region, some 70 km (43 miles) north of Kismayu.

The Minister for security of Jubbaland state, Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur confirmed that 38 militants had been killed in the operation carried out by Somali and US forces.

Abdinur says the coalition forces had also attacked on Al Shabaab targets in Berhani and Kanjaron areas near the coastal town of Kismayu.

“I can confirm to media that Somali and US forces killed 38 terrorists in Jamane and other small areas near Kismayo”, Abdinur said.

He told journalists the operations against Al Shabaab held towns, would be continued, until the group’s fighters are eradicated.

The Somali-based group of Al-Shabaab has claimed to have foiled an “attempted airborne attack” by US and Somali troops.

There was no immediate word made by Somali authorises as well as US Africa Command over the operation in Jamame town.
