Somali-based group Al Shabaab has launched mortar attack on African Union forces’ base in Baladweyne town, some 335km north of Mogadishu.

The attack happened earlier on Tuesday after militants fired rockets at army base manned by Djiboutian forces under African Union mission in Somalia.

Residents told AGGM that heavy explosions could be heard in the town, adding that the peacekeeping forces repulsed the attack.

It is unclear the exact casualty on the shelling.

Neither African Union mission in Somalia nor Al Shabaab has commented on the attack in Baladweyne town.
