MOGADISHU – Heavily armed Al Shabaab fighters launched an attack on army base near Baladweyne town, some 330Km north of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Tuesday’s assault happened in Mordinle area, when militants armed with RPGs, machine-guns and AK-47s ambushed an army base manned by government soldiers, residents said.
In phone interview with AGGM, a resident, who asked to be anonymous, said that the militants seized Mordinle area during the battle, adding that the military soldiers retreated.
It is unclear the exact casualty on the fighting.
No word was available from local authorities in the area over the seizure claims made by Al Shabaab
