Hundreds of people arrested in an operation in Somali capital

MOGADISHU – Somali security forces have launched an operation in parts of the capital Mogadishu, arresting hundreds of people.

The operation was carried out in the city’s Hodan area, as hundreds of people on suspicion of Al Shabaab members were arrested according to residents, who spoke to AGGM on phone.

“Somali soldiers were conducting the crackdown in villages of Hodan. They (soldiers) captured hundreds of people. I don’t know the reason behind the operation”, a witness said.

The suspects were all taken into custody for futher interrogations, according to a policeman, who requested to be anonymous because of he was unauthorized to speak on media.

He says those who found guilty will be brought into justice and others will be released soon.

Mogadishu has been witnessing increase of assassinations and suicide bomb explosions as Somali-based group Al Shabab claimed attacks in the capital, leaving dozens dead.
