UPDATE: Kenyan jets kill six people in Somalia

MOGADISHU – Kenyan warplanes targeting Al Shabaab bases on Tuesday, has killed six people and four others injured near Badere town, some 400 km southwest of Mogadishu.

The jets bombed Takaro area; about 50km west of the town, leaving six civilian people dead and 4 others sustained injuries, according to Somali military officer, Col. Guhad Mohamud.

Mohamud says the victims had been taken into hospital in Bardere town, adding some them had included children.

“We heard Kenyan warplanes carried out strikes against Al Shabaab in Tarako area. Six people died and 4 others injured. Kids were among the victims”, he said.

He says the armed group of Al Shabaab fighters re-captured Tarako area, a day after African Union peacekeepers from Kenya withdrew over unknown reason.

Bardere hospital doctor, Sharmarke Nur told VOA – Somali service that four people had been brought into the hospital after injuring in Tarako bombing.

There was no response from African Union mission over the strikes that killed civilians near Badere town, some 400 km southwest of Mogadishu.
