Somali And Oromia Leaders Cooperate To Resolve Conflict

Heads of Oromia and Somali regional states announced that they will work together to end the conflict and rehabilitate the people displaced due to the conflict, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

In a joint press conference  reported by ENA by the leadership of the two regional states along with with Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Development,  both Somali and Oromia leadership expressed sadness over the death and displacement of people.

“The conflict that led to the death and displacement of people doesn’t represent the people and governments of the regional states. ” Head of Oromia regional state, Lemma Megersa said as quoted by Ethiopian News Agency, underlining that the conflict is the result of criminal activities of individuals.

On the hand, Head of Somali regional state, Abdi Mohamed condemned the acts of killings and reiterated that its against the culture of both people.

“The act seen during the conflict is against the culture of both people, recalling their tradition of resolving conflicts peacefully.” Somali Regional State, Abdi Mohamed said.

Kebede Chane, Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Development called the act as a conspiracy against the federal system and urged the need to end the conflict immediately.

“As the federal system is based on consensus and unity, such acts are intended to jeopardize it.”  Kebede Chane, Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Development said.

More than 30 Somalis were brutally killed last week by members of the Oromo Security Eastern Ethiopian town of Hawadaay, while the tension between the neighboring regional states worsened prompting thousands of civilians to flee
