MOGADISHU – (AGGM) At least two people have been killed and 11 others injured on Monday in suicide car bomb explosion in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The explosion happened near Wehliye hotel on Maka Al Mukaram road in the capital, leaving two civilians dead, police officer Hussein Mohamed said.

Hussein says the blast also injured 11 other people, who were nearby the scene of the explosion, adding that all victims had been taken into hospital.

“We have counted deaths of two civilian people and injuries of 11 others people following an explosion caused by car laden with explosives parked near Wehliye hotel”, he said.

The main target of the attack remains unknown.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion in the capital city of Mogadishu.

In the capital, Somali-based group Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks for the pasts months.

The group once controlled much of Somalia but in 2011 it was driven out of the capital Mogadishu and has since lost most other former strongholds.

But its fighters remain a formidable threat and constantly carry out bombings against both military and civilian targets in Mogadishu and elsewhere.
